Fiber Rate Increase Plan

Here are the customer communications going out in December.

Market conditions have led us to implement a fiber rate increase. Click here to view a PDF of our new rates. Fiber phone prices will not change.

To protect our newer customers from an immediate price increase and avoid the perception as a bait-and-switch company, we are adopting the following plan:

Customer (Business and Residential) Effective Date
New customers see new prices when they sign up. October 1, 2025
Existing customers who have been installed for at least a year. January 1, 2026 for February bill

Note: Customers who have not received service from us for a full year will have their price locked in until their one-year service anniversary date.

Business Customers

We're streamlining our packages to improve efficiency and will include Calix's SmartBiz solution for business (not enterprise) customers. Some packages will be grandfathered; as of October 1, 2025, they will not be available to new customers and will not include SmartBiz. Customers in grandfathered packages who want SmartBiz will need to change their package.

Stay tuned for more details on SmartBiz.

Why are we increasing our prices?

While some providers advertise lower introductory rates, those prices often increase year after year. Plus, for them, profit is king and service is secondary. This leads to things like sacrifices to customer service, added hidden fees, or rushed contractor installs. At MEC, we are committed to transparent pricing, reliable service, and local support. That commitment is why this increase is necessary. When customers sign up with MEC, they get more than just fiber; they get a partner who truly cares.

  • Inflation has impacted the cost to maintain and expand service.
  • Interest rates have doubled, so it costs more to finance.
  • As the demand for internet grows, our customers are using significantly more bandwidth. In fact, utilization has doubled in the past year, which directly increases our operating costs.
Customer Talking Points
  • Persistent inflation has resulted in network construction and maintenance costs increasing by up to three times what they were when we started building fiber.
  • Interest rates have doubled, dramatically increasing the cost of financing.
  • Our customers are utilizing the internet more frequently and using applications and products that demand more bandwidth. In fact, bandwidth utilization has doubled just in the past year, which directly increases our operating costs.
  • MEC invests in more than just fiber; we invest in the overall customer experience. We protect customers from malware and hackers and ensure they have unlimited data to do what they need. We help parents manage their kids online activities, and we help businesses stay competitive.
  • Additionally, we offer transparent and fair pricing, avoid hidden fees, keep customer service local, and make a commitment to the communities we serve. When someone signs up for MEC fiber, they get more than high-speed internet; they get a partner who truly cares.
